UCITS ETF Checklist Before Buy (10-Point Quick Check)
Use this before every ETF order. It takes 2–3 minutes and prevents costly mistakes.
Why this checklist matters
Most beginner mistakes happen right before buy: wrong ticker line, wrong share class, ignoring fees, or buying something they do not fully understand. This checklist keeps decisions calm and structured.
10-point quick checklist
- 1. Is it UCITS?
- 2. Do I understand which index it tracks?
- 3. Is this ETF role clear (core vs optional)?
- 4. TER is reasonable compared to alternatives?
- 5. Fund size and liquidity are strong enough?
- 6. Share class is correct (Accumulating or Distributing)?
- 7. Replication method checked (physical/synthetic)?
- 8. Domicile/tax implications reviewed for my country?
- 9. Correct exchange line and trading currency selected?
- 10. ISIN in broker exactly matches the ETF I intended?
Most common error to avoid
Same ETF name can appear in different lines/exchanges. Always confirm by ISIN, not by name only.
Simple execution rule
If 1–2 checklist items are unclear, do not buy yet. Pause, verify, then place order with confidence.
